New Perspectives on Leadership
Overview:
Few topics in management generate as much interest as the topic of Leadership. The abiding preoccupation with this subject is reflected not only in the substantial amount of academic research whose objective is to understand the secrets of successful Leadership.
Books on Leadership and/or Great Leaders dominate the shelves of the Business section of bookstores and the faces of successful, fallen and potential leaders gaze out from the covers of glossy magazines.
The audience for these products is obviously vast. And the need to become effective as a leader is clearly what will fast track a career to the top echelons of an organization.
This suggests at least two conclusions: One, that despite the abundance of research and attention, our understanding of the mechanics of Leadership remains limited (otherwise, there would be no further need for more books and research); and two, Leadership is perceived to be a matter of great and abiding importance.
